The requirement for a good and ergonomic home office setup has increased a lot during this pandemic. After an extensive search (online and offline) for a good chair for my desk, I landed (not literally) on Green Soul Monster Ultimate chair.
Being a software engineer, I have to spend good amount of time sitting on a chair. Standing desks are not my thing. So a good ergonomic chair was really essential for me. This is a popular chair especially among gamers. I do game sometimes but my requirement primarily was for work. I am impressed after using this for more than a month. So I decided to share my review here on my blog.
Ergonomic Design
Green Soul Monster Ultimate chair has a bit of an aggressive design. It looks more like a gaming chair. So I chose a chair with black accents which perfectly balances (as all things should be) between an aggressive and subtle looks. The chair looks good and the design is ergonomic.
Build Quality & Comfort
Starting with the frame, it is metal. The package that I received was 27 Kgs. The chair is really heavy. Even during the assembly I could feel the weight of the components. After full assembly, the chair feels really sturdy and strong.
The material used in the seat and back rest is spandex fabric + PU leather. The choice of these to materials at different parts of the chair has been done very smartly. The PU leather which can wear easily in time is put in places where your body will not touch usually. Basically it is used to put accents on whole chair. And the spandex fabric is used as the base material which is very durable and breathable.
The weight capacity is 135 Kg and it comes with 3 Years warranty.
4D Arms Rests
One of the best features of this chair is the 4D arm rests. The carbon fibre finish looks really good. The material used is also very good. Not very hard to irritate your arms and not too soft to wear off easily.
The arm rests can be attached to the chair at different width during the assembly. I attached it at the centre of the available space in the base which is not too wide and not to close. After attaching the arms to the base, the arms can be adjusted 4 ways. You can increase the height, slide the arm rests back and forth, slide the arms rest left and right and you can adjust the angles of the arm rest. This give you really good flexibility to adjust the arm rest as per your comfort. This is an EXTREMELY useful feature of this chair. Every chair should have this.
Lumbar & Neck Support
One of the most important things in ergonomic chairs is how good the lumbar support is. I am so satisfied with this chair’s lumbar support. Could easily feel the different from day 1. I am able to sit comfortably on this chair for long hours without any pain in my back and my bottom.
I am using it with the velour covered memory foam pillow. The lumbar support is good without it as well. But with the lumbar pillow it is very good that I haven’t removed it after I started using it.
There is a soft neck pillow as well, which will take some time to loosen up its belt to be at the right position. Till then, it will feel a bit uncomfortable. But now it is really good.
Spacious Seat & Back
The shape is very comfortable. The seat is big and wide. It gives really good under thigh support even with the lumbar pillow. The lumbar pillow will push you a little bit outside but still you will have under thigh support.
The seat spacious enough for your to sit with folded legs for a while. Trust me, you will do it.The back is also very comfortable.
Almost A Recliner
Just like your car seat, Green Soul Monster Ultimate chair can also be reclined. Not just at few angles but till 180o. Not sure about the use case of 180. But option to recline at multiple angles really makes sense especially when you are chilling, watching movies or playing games with controllers.
The rocking mechanism can be adjusted by rotating the knob at the bottom.
And the thing that makes it almost a recliner, when rocking your chair back and forth, you can lock the seat at an angle (15o). And then, just push an ottoman under your feet and you have your recliner. I use this feature a lot during my breaks and gaming. It is really comfortable to relax.
Assembly
You will have to assemble this chair yourself. The assembly is pretty simple but can take from 20 to 40 minutes. The instructions are pretty straightforward. They send an L-Key with the screws which is great.
Pro tip: Tighten the screws very well otherwise you might hear squeaking noise from the chair.
Cons (Problem with their customer support)
It is a great chair and I like it a lot but it doesn’t mean I didn’t have any issues. That’s why I have give 4 stars instead of 5.
I bought this from the company site which and didn’t have a very pleasant experience.
I received the chair in 12-14 days which is much more than what was mentioned on their site. Then I received a box with was torn from the corner and after unpacking the chair. I found a small cut on the edge of the seat. I quickly took pictures and forwarded to their support on WhatsApp. The support is really slow.
They didn’t reply for 2 days, after messaging them again they said they have raised a ticket regarding the issue and concerned person will contact me in 48 working hours. That’s 6 days. Checked after 5 days (June 2) for the status and then they called me. I had assembled the chair by then so they told me as I have assembled they can give me some refund amount. I wanted the chair fixed so after asking, they sent a technician at my place to fix the chair. It was a small cut and was fixed with some glue. Luckily that part is not visible easily.
I haven’t seen others with similar problems online, must be exceptional case. But still I don’t expect this kind of service from a premium brand with a premium price. If I had ordered it from Amazon chair would have been very easily and quickly replaced with another one. That’s why I have take one start from this review.
The only con that I can find that Green Soul Monster Ultimate chair might look a little bulky and big if you have less space. Other than that:
