A new story is to be written in this year 2012. Check my Blogging Resolution list for 2012 if you haven’t made any for you. You should have resolutions for yourself, as a blogger – but also for your blog, itself. I already described in my post – Good Blogger And Good Blog, how to make a good blog. Now some resolutions for your blog to make it stand out of the crowd.
#1. Clean your sidebar: Do you think it’s cool to fill your sidebar with so many gadgets? I don’t. For example I have seen Time widget in many blogs. ??? I can move my eyes to the bottom right corner of my computer to see the time. So the point is remove all the unnecessary widgets from your blog. Widgets like popular posts, recommended post can be considered as useful and even important to keep visitors crawling your blog.
#2. Get a good design: Don’t make you blog looks like same technology blogs out there. Search out a different, professional and stylish template for your blog. Should be good in design, placement of menu bars, share buttons and so on. Color contrast in an important aspect of good design. Choose contrast, combinations which are comfortable to eyes.
#3. Don’t forget the alignment: Overflow of widgets from the sidebar looks really weird and unskilled. Unaligned buttons, logo, text give a very bad impression to the readers even if you are a good writer. You can aligh your widgets and stuff very easily with the code here.
#4. Only quality content: Don’t publish every guest post you get in your inbox. The content should be completely relevant to your blog. Or don’t publish any article with less, incomplete information. Make sure you know the correct before speaking it out. Incorrect and doubtful information can lead to unsubscribing and consequently to downgrade you blog’s reputation.
#5. Steady publishing: Regular publishing doesn’t mean to publish everyday or twice a day. It can be twice a week also. But it should be steady. Don’t make it like, publishing two articles everyday for a week and then get disappeared. You readers should know when they should expect content from you.
#6. Make navigation easy: Let your readers easily navigate to the desired category or article. You can use drop down menus, Multilevel drop down menus, related post and so on to implement it. Add a sitemap to your blog for showing your all posts in one. Have a look to OddBlogger’s Sitemap.
#7. Reduce load time: All of the readers out there don’t have a high speed internet. So make your blog load fast. Remove unnecessary widgets, use light format pictures. Moreover, one can also use Lazy Load Plugin to reduce blog load time. Many websites out there to check blog load time.
#8. Easy subscription: Allow easy and one click subscription options from all possible options. Facebook badge or like box being one of the easiest ways to subscribe. Some readers prefers to subscribe by email. So don’t forget to allow email subscription on your blog. Don’t forget to Subscribe to OddBlogger’s feeds or LIKE on facebook.
#9. Don’t break the rules: Make a resolution, not to break any rule for your blog. Do not put any content which is advocating violence, racism, or hate speech, etc. Don’t ignore copyright law for vectors, graphics and content.
#10. Interconnect the blog : A good idea to keep your readers stay on your blog is to inter connect your articles, pages etc. For example in the end of an article you can refer another article relevant to current article. Don’t miss to add the links to your blog’s other posts in the body of your current article, to describe more precisely.
Make these resolutions for your blog and write an history for your blog this year. Happy New Year friends.
