OddBlogger Switched from Blogger to WordPress

Welcome to my self-hosted WordPress blog, my readers. Finally, I have done it. This blog was on Blogger from last 7-8 months. I think, I did well with Blogger. Maybe, that’s why I started receiving suggestions to switch my blogger blog to WordPress. I didn’t care about suggestions so much. Because I was doing better on Blogger from some WordPress blogs. But when I got suggestions from some experienced popular bloggers to switch the platform. Then I had to give it a thought.

One of the suggestion was from Ms Ileane Smith. Now, after switching my platform, I’m actually feeling very good. So, thanks to Ms Ileane!

What was the most difficult part?

Actually, choosing a hosting provider was the most difficult part. I’m completely new to hosting stuff and WordPress so it was really confusing which way should I choose? But thanks to Francisco Perez (DiTesco) who helped me a lot. We had a lloonnngggg discussion for around 3 days about which hosting plan, why, from where etc. BIG THANKS to him! I couldn’t select a hosting plan suggested by him due to some conditions. But I’m not going to share which I did choose, for now.

Migrating Process

Migrating process from Blogger to WordPress was really smooth. Actually, I did this from DiTesco’s tutorial only and got everything thing set up properly in a while. I’m glad he shared his tutorial – “How To Migrate From Blogger To WordPress” which is divide in 3 different parts. I followed all the steps carefully and now I’m all done now (almost).

Holly Jahangiri is helping me, too, in fixing little bugs and letting me know about WordPress and plugins stuff.

I’m glad I found great helpful friends online who help without worry for their precious time. You know, that’s why I love Blogging more.

I have taken this step to make my blog a little more flexible and better. To make it easy and effective for my guests to write on oddblogger.com. I’ll try to give best to my readers. In fact, one post is ready to publish for tomorrow. Don’t miss it, subscribe anyways you like (See sidebar,  I have many options for you :)).

Any Suggestions?

Would you like to suggest? Plugin, theme or anything which is important but missing. I’d love to hear. Just, it should make sense. 🙂 Try the comment box to send your thoughts to me.

That’s good choice I would say as I have blogged on both the platforms for quite long time and in my opinion WordPress is any day better than Blogger.

    • Abhi, March 26, 2012 @ 10:27 am Reply

Blogger is not BAD at all. But if someone wants to be more flexible with his or her blog then WordPress is definitely the way to go. Thanks for the comments, Bishwajeet!

I will not give u any suggestion but i will ask a question to you 🙂 How you added that pin button on floating social media share ? Which plugin you are using ? .
Oh i seen you bottom . please add some thing in bottom so that it don’t look empty . Like top commentator , recent comment to encourage commentators . waiting for answer 🙂

    • Abhi, March 26, 2012 @ 12:53 pm Reply

      Hello Aatif,

The plugin is “Twitter Facebook Social Share” by Kunal Chichkar.

And I’ll add something in the footer. I’m still trying to be familiar with WordPress. 😀

      Thanks for your comments.

      • aatif, March 26, 2012 @ 1:28 pm Reply

No Digg !! Its disadvantage 🙁

  • Sanjeev, March 26, 2012 @ 12:11 pm Reply

Congrats Abhi, Having a self hosted blog is having a full freedom and you will enjoy the flexibility and SEO functionality on WordPress. You have to deal with lot of choices too…So Many Themes, Plugins..:)

    • Abhi, March 26, 2012 @ 12:54 pm Reply

      Hello Sanjeev,

Thank you for your wishes! Yes, here I can see lots of plugin for social share, for SEO … I”m glad I switched.

  • Jason Mathes, March 26, 2012 @ 7:45 pm Reply

Your sharebar is covering up the articles a bit. If you could – shove it over to the left a bit? Also I noticed there is a space between the Tweet and Pin it buttons – but that could be my flaky network here at work. 🙂

Oh yea.. I’m using Chrome – full screen resolution is 1900 x 1300

Looks great – and this is definitely a smart move for you! You now have a ton of flexibility not only in the way your site looks – but all of the different things you can do – especially with WordPress! Good luck and I look forward to your posts!

    • Abhi, March 26, 2012 @ 8:13 pm Reply

Thanks for you suggestions. But it looks fine here. Don’t know why it appears to you.

And that space between Tweet and Pin it button is for +1 button. I don’t know why it disappears sometimes. Do you have any idea about that? And you must read my article linked below. Hope you’ll enjoy it.

      • Jason Mathes, March 26, 2012 @ 9:52 pm Reply

Aha, Ok the +1 showed up for me now.. yea I dunno. What plugin is it? Digg Digg, or Sharebar?

Hmm.. Ok – this appears to only be an issue with Chrome. I tested with IE and it fades away when I “squish” the page (windowed mode instead of full screen) which I imagine is what it is supposed to do.

Not a huge deal – but alot of geeks such as myself have been turning to Chrome 😉

Either way though – only a minor annoyance! Otherwise your site looks great – Congratulations again for switching to “pro” status 🙂

  • Caleb, March 29, 2012 @ 3:53 am Reply

Looks awesome Abhi! The logo in the header is definitely unique and I also like the cool shaded areas around the elements plus everything is just bigger 😎

As for bug, I am seeing some text overlapping in the About section underneath the post and I would suggest you add ways for ppl to subscribe to your email list which is different of course from your Feedburner as both Aweber and a neat little free plugin called Qoate Newletter Signup puts a check box under the comment box allowing anyone who comments to subscribe to your email list without them having to fill out a form 😉

    • Abhi, March 29, 2012 @ 10:14 am Reply

      Hely Caleb,

Thanks a lot, my friend! It’s really good to see you here appreciating. I just wanted to make it easier for readers to read. So increased the size. Yep, I designed that logo (from a tutorial). Thanks for the appreciation.

I’m trying to figure out that error which you mentioned. Please let me know if you have any idea about that. It’d be great help.

Very much thank you for your suggestions about those plugins… I’ll definitely have a look to all of them.

I’d be grateful if you can see the article linked below.

    Hi Abhi,

Congratulations! Its time to celebrate where is party ?

One suggestion for you! Don’t use bold text in “Post body” its really looking odd. Overall work is awesome.

    Good luck.

      Hey Ajnabii,
