WordPress SEO Plugins are heart of any WordPress blog out there. It is SEO which decides the growth of our blog, the traffic to our blog and which gives us new reader by their search queries.

I was not writing much on my blog from last month (Sorry to those readers who were waiting for more articles) because of my examination and was not online for promotion of my blog posts but still I had constant readers on my blog, most probably because of the SEO plugins I use for my blog.

So, I thought, it would be a good idea to come back into blogging with a post in which I will share about the WordPress SEO plugins I am using for my blog OddBlogger and Geek OddBlogger. I use 3 SEO plugins, all three for different purposes, of course. So, here is the list of 3 WordPress SEO plugins you may want to consider for your blog.

WordPress SEO Plugins

#1: SEOPressor (Paid)

This is one of the top premium SEO plugins. It works like a charm, easy to use and very effective. It shows you a checklist in the right side bar of post editor and reminds you of various important SEO tasks which you should do in your post. The plugin checks if you have keywords for your posts or not then it checks that the keyword is present in H1, H2 and H3, keyword is in your post title, images – if the alt tag is there or not, if you have internal links or not, and a few more SEO tweaks.

I have already written a review and guide for SEOPressor SEO plugin. You should definitely check it out: SEOPressor V5 Review.

#2: SEO Friendly Images

WordPress SEO Plugins

You might have heard or read about the importance of ALT and TITLE tags in images, it is known as optimizing images.

ALT attribute is important part of search engine optimization. It describes your images to search engine and when a user searches for a certain image this is a key determining factor for a match.

TITLE attribute play lesser role but is important for visitors as this text will automatically appear in the tooltip when mouse is over the image.

But what if you already have lots of post on you blog with lots of image and you think you are a  bit late to know about image optimization. Then this plugin is for you. The plugin automatically updates all the images without ALT and TITLE tag on your blog with appropriate keywords according to the settings you have set.

#3: SEO Smart Links

Another automatic WordPress SEO plugin which can automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog.

Internal linking is good to keep our visitors stay on our blog but if you don’t have enough time or you miss to do internal linking yourself then you can use this plugins.

The plugin has many options to meet your needs which includes limiting the number of links (min or max), removing duplicates, excluding specific keywords and few more.

Note: I am still experimenting with the plugins to know more about them. Let me know if you have more information about any of these plugins.

Update: I came to know that the SEO Smart Links can harm you blog. So, please exclude this from the list. Thanks to Ileane Smith from BasicBlogTips.com

#3: HeadSpace2 SEO

I am using this plugin from a while because I did see a very good feedback for this plugin on many blogs out there. HeadSpace2 SEO is a very flexible plugin which allows you to set meta data and description for all your categories, pages, search pages, 404 pages. It allows us to define keywords, descriptions, page titles and other SEO information.

The long list of its features can be found on the plugin page.

These are the 3 WordPress SEO plugins I am using to SEO my blog and its posts. Do you use any other plugin? I would love to hear about that.

  • Pulkit, June 29, 2012 @ 6:22 pm Reply

I always used wordpress but never tried its plugins. Thanks for the post

    • Abhi, June 29, 2012 @ 6:45 pm Reply

Your welcome, Pulkit! Which plugin are you using for SEO?

  • Padeep, June 29, 2012 @ 10:24 pm Reply

I am using All in One SEO plugin since last year , can I use SEO by Yoast Plugin now?

    • Abhi, June 30, 2012 @ 11:46 am Reply

      Hello Padeep,

If you are using that plugin from last year and happy with its results then I would suggest you not to change it.

All in One SEO plugin is also a good plugin, but I prefer YOAST SEO.

      • Pardeep, June 30, 2012 @ 11:09 pm Reply

Yes Abhi I happy with that plugin but I am impressed with Page Analysis feature of Yoast SEO and also no need to install seprate plugin for XML Sitemap,Webmaster tools integration etc

        • Abhi, July 3, 2012 @ 10:55 pm Reply

Then you may consider to switch. Don’t delete the files associated with your previous plugin (just deactivate, so that you can switch back in case the new plugin doesn’t work good for you.).

          Pradeep,

Would you mind giving me a little help in my contest?

I personally love Yoasts plugin I can’t live without it!

I will need to checkout the images one though.

And I use WP Auto Links which is a cheap premium plugin for auto linking my affiliate links.

    • Abhi, July 2, 2012 @ 1:26 pm Reply

      Hey Jason,

Good to see you here again. Yes, I can’t live with YOAST SEO plugin, too.

The image SEO plugin is also great. And thank you for mentioning the plugin you use. I will have a look at it.

Have you ever thought about writing on a blogging niche blog? 😀

      • Jason Mathes, July 3, 2012 @ 3:03 am Reply

Sure! – What’d you have in mind? Feel free to email me the particulars :). But I will be on vacation this week so will have limited access to a computer..

        • Abhi, July 3, 2012 @ 10:57 pm Reply

Then, I would say enjoy your vacation. We can do this thing after vacations. 😀

          Have fun!

  • Raaj Trambadia, July 2, 2012 @ 3:13 am Reply

Hey Abhi. WordPress SEO by Yoast has always been useful! And the latest updates have driven me crazy! Though I’m using Thesis Framework (the best for SEO), I still use that plugin for the analysis! It’s really amazing!

BTW, seems like you’ve lost Google Authorship. Just searched the same keywords from that screenshot, and you’re on top, but without any avatar. You might want to check that out!

    All the best! Cheers 🙂

    • Abhi, July 2, 2012 @ 1:37 pm Reply

      Hey Raaj,

Thanks for the information about Google Authorship. I did check it again. It was there in Google results. Please check one more time, if you can.

      And thanks a lot.

  • Mohsin Ali, July 3, 2012 @ 12:27 am Reply

HeadSpace2 SEO is new to me but i think that WordPress Yoast plugin is already doing the same job for us.

    • Abhi, July 3, 2012 @ 10:59 pm Reply

Yep! Thumbs up for WordPress SEO by YOAST.

You may want to try HeadSpace2 as well.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  • Ileane, July 4, 2012 @ 4:32 pm Reply

Hi Abhi. Thanks so much for updating your post without the SEOSmart links plugin.

My favorite SEO plugin is SEOPressor and I am getting some good results with that one too.

    Good luck with your blog!

    • Abhi, July 4, 2012 @ 4:59 pm Reply

      Hello Ileane,

Yep! I remember playing with SEOPressor on your blog. I got good score there.

I was mentioning FREE plugins here, that’s why I didn’t include it here. I love that plugin too. Hope to get it soon in future.

For now, SEO YOAST is doing good for me.

I have my article on second with the search “Blogger to WordPress Migration”. I have seen it on the first too. 🙂

Thanks for your good wishes and all time support.

  • Ammar Ali, July 4, 2012 @ 5:08 pm Reply

I was using SEOPressor 3 months ago. But now I am using Yoast, Its working perfect for me 😉

    • Abhi, July 4, 2012 @ 8:53 pm Reply

      Hey Ammar,

I would like to know why you switched from SEOPressor. Weren’t you happy with its results or something?

  • Nimsrules, July 4, 2012 @ 8:22 pm Reply

SEO by Yoast does everything your blog needs as far as SEO is concerned but I also recommend my clients to install ‘Jetpack’. Quite a handy plugin as well!

    • Abhi, July 4, 2012 @ 8:55 pm Reply

I have JetPack installed. Thank you for the recommendation, my friend.

  • Shalu Sharma, July 4, 2012 @ 11:27 pm Reply

These SEO plugins are now a must in order to rank well. You can write a good post but as long as its not optimised properly, it might be difficult to rank well.

  • Chris, July 5, 2012 @ 3:24 pm Reply

    Hi Abhi,
I use All in One SEO Pack and it works great for me. I must check your first choice – WordPress SEO by YOAST.
    Thanks for sharing.
    BR, Chris

    • Abhi, July 5, 2012 @ 4:11 pm Reply

      Hello Chris,

Yes, I have heard many bloggers like All in One SEO Pack but I am using YOAST from the start and it has given me very good results.

BTW, did you see my post which is linked below?

  • Ehsan @ GuideAndNews, July 6, 2012 @ 8:06 pm Reply

    Hi Abhi,

I have little confused about selecting one from All in one SEO and SEO by Yoast. I’m using All in one SEO from the the first time when I started Blogging, but these days a lot of Bloggers are recommending WP SEO by Yoast.
So I wanna ask from you that should I move to WP SEO by Yoast from All one one?

    • Abhi, July 6, 2012 @ 10:06 pm Reply

      Hello Ehsan,

It’s up to you actually. If you are good with the results from All in One SEO then you should stay with it.

But if you haven’t seen any good increase in your blog’s traffic then you may consider changing the plugin.

          Hey Mairaj,

First tip I would like to give you, if you want to be a professional or good blogger, then you need to work on English slowly.

I did see you CAPITALIZE first letter of any word. This is not correct, and gives a bad impression. I am sure you will take care in future.

I have a post related to writing, have a look here: http://oddblogger.com//writing-tips-at-a-glance/

My vote goes to WordPress SEO by Yoast when it comes to free SEO plugins. I haven’t yet found an equally good plugin which is free. It has loads of cool features. Thanks for putting this up Abhi.

    • Abhi, July 12, 2012 @ 8:53 pm Reply

      Hello Jane,

I am glad you agree with me here. Yes, I am using it from the start and loving it.

BTW, did you see there’s a giveaway on my blog for magazine theme?

  • Sanjib Saha, July 18, 2012 @ 7:45 pm Reply

    Hi Abhi,

Great plugins you shared in your post. WordPress SEO by YOAST is one my fav plugin. SEO Friendly Images plugin is another great plugin.

Please check your Commentluv plugin, something is wrong with this plugin.

    Thanks!

  • Anton Koekemoer, July 31, 2012 @ 3:39 pm Reply

    Hi Abhi,

Yes – I do agree. When searching for a SEO plugin on WordPress I was quite amazed at the amount of SEO plugins that have become available over the recent couple of months. This just makes choosing between plugins harder – especially if you consider the user review / rating that you can see along with the plugins. It should have made it easy to choose – but actually makes it a lot harder, since the best ones share a very close rating. But yes – I do agree, SEO plugin from Yoast is excellent! Would not recommend any other.

  • Arun, August 3, 2012 @ 12:14 pm Reply

I use SEO Platinum Plugin on my blog. WordPress SEO by YOAST looks so powerful with instant SEO results. I will give it a try. For a “blogger to wordpress migration” search on Google, oddblogger is coming #2 after labnol.

  • Gary, August 16, 2012 @ 6:44 am Reply

Yoast is my favorite of all of those hands down. That plugin is just amazing. IDK, what I would do without it.

  • Harley@plumbing mckinney, August 16, 2012 @ 8:10 pm Reply

yoast plugin is a must, don’t forget wp-smush it and w3 total cache for image optimazation and performance issues. Thanks for the post!

  • Sachin Kundu, August 20, 2012 @ 1:09 pm Reply

All in seo is also good plugin. Many bloggers love it. WordPress yoast is also good but i think its for new blogger.

  • Meena Thakur, September 8, 2012 @ 6:52 pm Reply

I dont recommend using Yoast actually. Its leads to over optimization which is a a red flag for google.

  • Garen, November 3, 2012 @ 3:11 am Reply

I had no idea that SEO Smart Links could hurt your blog. Even if you limit it to 3 internal links or so per page? Thanks for the heads up I have a niche site in the credit repair niche. I am going to remove that plugin, for sure!!

SEO Yoast is the best SEO plugin I’ve used and I install it on all my client’s sites (I’m an SEO). Another great plugin is Redirection which helps redirect any pages or posts that you move or delete. Saved me a few times 🙂
